Four chairs. Nobody gets rushed.

Silk is small on purpose. Four chairs means you get a full appointment with one person, not fifteen minutes each from three.

Kelly McColgan

Founder, hairdresser and trichologist

Kelly McColgan has 25 years of hairdressing experience and is qualified in trichology, the science of hair and scalp health.

She started at twelve years old in Ireland, sweeping floors in a salon because she wanted to be in one. She trained in Belfast, then cut her way around the world before landing on the Gold Coast.

Somewhere in those 25 years she got tired of a particular conversation. A woman would sit down, worried about her hair, and be sold something longer, fuller and faker. Nobody would tell her why it was happening. Kelly went and studied the science so she could answer the question instead of decorating it.

That is why Silk is both things at once. It is a clinic, with a microscope and real answers about what your hair is doing. It is also a Friday morning with rollers in and an iced coffee in your hand.

Both are the same thing, really. Because when your hair feels right, it helps you feel right.

Kelly is best for

  • Hair loss and scalp diagnosis
  • Blonde correction
  • Extensions

Liv, hairdresser at Silk Hair Lab

Liv

Hiya I'm Liv, and I started hairdressing at 15. Hairdressing has always been a big interest of mine, and I've loved growing my skills, meeting new people and finding my own style along the way.

What I love most about hairdressing is the people. I love the one-on-one experience with my clients, getting to know them, having a chat and making them feel their absolute best. There's nothing better than seeing someone walk out of the salon feeling like a whole new woman — with I'm Every Woman by Chaka Khan playing in the background! I also absolutely love the atmosphere in our salon. Working alongside my team feels like working with a second family, and the laughs, chats and good vibes make coming to work feel like I've never actually worked a day in my life!

I'm really proud to have qualified as a hairdresser and to have built my skills and experience from such a young age. I'm excited to keep learning, creating and, most importantly, making people feel amazing one head of hair at a time.

Lilly Wills, hairdresser at Silk Hair Lab

Lilly

Hi I'm Lilly Wills, I started my apprenticeship in my last year of school, graduating last year I've loved growing my skills and confidence in the industry ever since. What I love most about the hairdressing industry is being able to meet different people and make them feel confident and happy with their hair. I love doing hair because it allows me to be creative while also making someone feel their best. One of my achievements so far has been building my confidence and skills through my apprenticeship and being able to take on more services and responsibilities as I've progressed.

I'm excited to keep learning and growing.

I'm now entering the world of trichology and as a qualified scalp practitioner will be extending my services and knowledge further to support our clients in the Hair Lab.

Makenna Bates, hairdresser at Silk Hair Lab

Makenna

Hi, I'm Makenna Bates. I've been hairdressing since I was 15 and have always loved the creative side of the industry. As an emerging stylist, I'm passionate about continuing to learn, build my experience and become the best stylist I can be.

What I love about hairdressing is that there's always something new to learn and so many different ways to be creative. I enjoy being able to bring someone's vision to life and create a look that makes them feel confident.

I also love the relationships you build with clients and the atmosphere of working in a salon. Being able to make someone feel comfortable, have a good chat and leave feeling happy with their hair is one of my favourite parts of the job. I'm excited to keep developing my skills and growing within the industry.
